Consul General Yonca Sunel was born in 1969 in Istanbul.

She graduated from the Department of International Relations at Middle East Technical University in 1991.

She began her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 and held various positions in the Deputy Directorates General for the Council of Europe and Human Rights, Central Asia and the Caucasus, Consular Affairs, Cultural Diplomacy, Multilateral Economic Affairs, and Humanitarian Assistance.

She served at the Consulate General in Düsseldorf, the Embassy in Tbilisi, and the Consulate General in Cologne. From 2017 to 2021, she was the Consul General in Hamburg.

She is married and has two children.
